Mystery of the Mayan Medallion for Arkansas Discovery Network

Visitors discover an abandoned archaeological site and search for clues to a treasured medallion. Throughout this 2,000 SF immersive, content-rich environment are scattered glyph clues which children must find to “unlock” the vault that holds the precious medallion. Activities introduce children to the Maya: their culture, mathematics, study of the stars and planets and architecture. As they search for clues they work as archaeologists, astronomers and ethnobotanists. Visitors use the techniques of forensic archaeologists to determine who is buried in the crypt. They use a scale model of a temple to investigate how the Maya used the sun as a “calendar.” They identify specimens and use specially written “guidebooks” to identify whether or not the venom of a spider “sting” they received is toxic.
